Do gringos REALLY put lime on EVERYTHING?

My local friends here in Playa keep teasing me about the lime. They say it's a stereotype, but then they offer me lime for my water! Am I missing out on a secret flavor? Or is it just a funny expat thing? Let me know your thoughts!
