Rent deposit shock in GDL! Normal?

Just started looking for an apartment in Guadalajara. The deposit amounts are way higher than I expected. Is this typical here? It feels like a lot of money upfront. Wondering if I should expect this everywhere or if it's specific to certain neighborhoods. Any advice would be great!
