Renting in San Miguel: Landlord wants deposit AND first month?
Hi everyone! I'm settling into San Miguel de Allende and looking for a new apartment. My landlord wants a deposit AND the first month's rent upfront. Is this pretty standard here? Tbh, it feels like a lot. Just wondering what others have experienced.
¡Hola! Sí, es súper común que pidan depósito y el primer mes. A veces hasta más, depende del dueño. Yo pagué eso en Mérida.
Yeah, that upfront cost is a killer! It's pretty standard though. They often ask for at least one month's rent as a security deposit.
Yeah, that's pretty much the norm everywhere, not just San Miguel. In Mérida, it was the same for me. They want that safety net, you know?
Totally! That safety net thing makes sense. It's basically like an insurance policy for them.
Exacto, @sarah-r. Es lo más normal. A veces hasta te piden un aval. Así que sí, prepárate para eso.
Yeah, exactly! The "aval" thing is pretty common too. Just part of the process, I guess.
Oh, okay! Good to know it's common then. Thanks for sharing your experience in Mérida, @sarah-r. It does feel like a big chunk of money upfront!
Totally. It's definitely a bit of a shocker. Think of it as a good sign though. They want to make sure you're serious.
