Why do Mexican businesses have saint names?

Walking around Mexico City, I see so many shops named after saints. "Carnicería San Miguel," "Taller San Judas," you name it. Is there a historical reason for this? Or is it just a common cultural thing? I'm curious about the background.

¡Qué buena pregunta! Yo también me he fijado en eso. Creo que tiene mucho que ver con la historia y la religión aquí. Mucha gente les pide favores a los santos. Por eso les ponen sus nombres a los negocios.
